Males Arrested After Assaulting and Dragging Victim

For Immediate Release:  February 13, 2018


On February 12, 2018, a male was arrested after assaulting and dragging his girlfriend in his vehicle as she attempted to escape.

At 4:57 pm, patrol officers responded to New Hampshire and Atlantic Avenues for a report of a woman lying in the roadway.  Officer Bryan O’Neill arrived to find the victim, a 41 year old female from Atlantic City, with numerous injuries in the middle of the road.

The victim had been in a vehicle with her boyfriend, Daniel Martinez, when Martinez began to assault her.  The victim was able to exit the vehicle, but as she leaned back in to grab her belongings, Martinez sped off dragging the victim as she held on to the vehicle.  Once the victim was dislodged from the vehicle and fell to the ground, Martinez sped away.  The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with non-life threatening injuries.

A description of Martinez’s vehicle was provided to responding officers.  Officer Malik Tolbert located Martinez in his parked vehicle on the north block of Vermont Avenue.  He was taken into custody without incident. 

Martinez was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated.


ARRESTED:  Daniel Martinez, a 31 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Aggravated assault, vehicular aggravated assault, and numerous motor vehicles summons.

Martinez was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
