UPDATE- Body Found Identified as Missing Male

For Immediate Release:  March 8, 2018

On March 6, 2018 at 5:11 pm, patrol officers responded to the end of Arizona Avenue at the bay for the report of a body found.  Officers arrived to find the remains of a body at the water’s edge.  The Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded and recovered the body with assistance from the Atlantic City Fire Department.

Based upon the height, weight, and clothing, the body has been tentatively identified as Damon Malloy.  A positive identification will come from the medical examiner’s office at the completion of forensic testing.  Mr. Malloy’s family has been notified.

Mr. Malloy was last seen on November 13, 2017.  Patrol officers had responded to the 2300 block of Sheldon Avenue for a report of a male acting erratically after jumping out of the window of a residence.  Officers arrived on scene and saw Mr. Malloy yelling and behaving unusually.

Medical personnel were requested to the scene.  As the officers approached Mr. Malloy to provide assistance, he ran from them and jumped in the water off of Murray Avenue.  He began to swim away from the officers who repeatedly tried to get him to return to land until they lost sight of him.

The fire department, New Jersey State Police, and the United States Coast Guard all responded in an effort to locate Malloy in the water.
