Three Men Arrested After Fleeing from Officers Investigating Handgun Call

For Immediate Release:  January 9, 2019

 

On January 8, 2019, three men were arrested after fleeing from officers after one man pointed a handgun at an unknown victim.

At 5:15 am, patrol officers responded to Tennessee and Atlantic Avenues for a report of three men getting out of a vehicle with one man pointing a handgun.  K9 Officer Rudolph Sime arrived quickly and located the vehicle.  As he attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, the driver sped off with the officers giving chase. 

In the 800 block of Virginia Avenue, the car stopped and the three men ran from the vehicle.  Officer Sime chased and arrested Kyrie Johnson.  Officer Michael Oldroyd located Abdul Bailey hiding behind a dumpster and took him into custody.  The third man was able to get away. 

An investigation by the officers led to the identity of the third man as Yahsin Cheeks.  Cheeks was observed on surveillance video with the handgun.  At 10:46 am, Detectives Darrin Lorady and Christopher Smith located Cheeks in the 2100 block of Sheridan Avenue.  He was taken into custody without incident.

 

ARRESTED:  Kyrie Johnson, a 26 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Eluding, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. 

 

ARRESTED:  Abdul Bailey, a 26 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Eluding, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. 

 

ARRESTED:  Yahsin Cheeks, a 25 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon, eluding, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. 

All three men were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
